Since a young age traveling to new places, close or far, has been one of the most important aspects of my life. I spent the summer between high school and college traveling, most of my time was spent in Denmark but among other places I also went to Berlin. Berlin was a huge city where I did not know anyone and did not know the language, however this was one of the appealing aspects to me. My grandfather was from Germany and I had been to west Germany once, prior to this trip. I had always felt a connection to Germany and I felt at home the first time I went. My trip to Berlin was no different, I felt right at home with the food, people, and the culture. Berlin is a huge city but one of the things I loved most about it was how easy it was to get around. Walking and taking the subway to different places made it feel so much larger and more of an adventure. Another reason I love Berlin is the different food options, not only can you always find traditional German food but food from all around the globe because of its diverse citizens. This leads me to the number one reason Berlin (and all of Germany) is my favorite place, the people. All of my encounters with the workers and citizens of Berlin were nothing short of fascinating and helpful. Everyone was willing to give you directions or give you a food suggestion or, my favorite, share there story of how they ended up living in Berlin. I don't know if I will return to Berlin soon but I would recommend to anyone to go at least once!
What a great picture, Olivia: it's like you are magically emerging from the artwork! Hunter also wrote about Berlin too, so maybe you will want to connect up through the comments at some point: Berlin... my favorite place!
ReplyDeleteOlivia,
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome picture next to the colorful wall. The artwork is captivating! Another student in this class also favors Berlin, Germany. I would love to visit, but sadly have not had the time. It is interesting to see how she also made the same comment you did about Germany feeling like home. It goes to show how inviting their culture is.
What cool places to have traveled too! Bot Denmark and Berlin sound so interesting and different than what we are used to over here in the states. I have only traveled to London in Europe but really want expand on that list! Germany is one it sounds like I really need to put on my list! It is very reassuring that even with the language barrier and how large the city is you were still able to enjoy yourself and get to the places you needed to.
ReplyDeleteHowdy Olivia,
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous that you have been to Berlin. I have been to southern Germany, but sadly I did not make it to Berlin. I would love to go back to Berlin. I think Berlin is just such a historic city, and I am into to all that. Hopefully one day, I will make it there. I am also taking German right now, so I think it would be fun to go test my language skills. I also think it is awesome that you found comfort in such a different culture.
Hi Olivia,
ReplyDeleteI love the personal photo you showed us! The art work on the wall is amazing! I have always wanted to visit Berlin or rather Germany in general. I think European countries have so much great history and its a different culture over there that I want to learn. I also want to travel to try new foods since I think a lot of cultural and history is embedded in food!
